Director of Community and Marketing

Job Description & Responsibilities

The House Fund is looking for a Director of Community & Marketing to orchestrate our digital communications, marketing, and events engagements with a data-driven mindset. This role will position you squarely in the center of a world-class network of founders, academic researchers, technologists, executives, and other venture investors. You will play a key role in enabling The House Fund's Investment team to find and evaluate new investment opportunities and our portfolio companies to connect with resources they need to grow by intelligently fostering and growing our network.

With a data-driven mindset, you will work closely with our Investment Team to orchestrate personalized email campaigns and direct introductions to help build new connections within our network, grow our network over time, and deliver resources to our portfolio founders. Your skills in generating succinct, personalized email copy and using modern digital marketing tools will be invaluable to your work. You will also support in-person engagements of our network by curating invitation lists for The House Fund events. You will think about curating engagements of our network - digitally and in-person - with the same mindset and rigor that a product manager would bring to building a product – driving data driven decision making, increased retention and engagement, and long term planning.

And to better enable you in your work, you will be given digital superpowers by our internal Software Engineering team via the custom tools they have built to help us work more intelligently in activating our network. The Software Engineering team will also look to you as a key stakeholder in delivering feedback and driving the product roadmap.

Over time you will learn the innermost workings of a Venture Capital fund, and play a key role in The House Fund's growth by enabling our Investment team with a highly engaged, fast growing network.

Core responsibilities include
  • Manage and automate The House Fund's regular digital communications with key stakeholders: partner venture investors, portfolio founders, technologists, mentors, corporate contacts, and others – by executing personalized, data-driven email campaigns to support our portfolio companies and broader network
  • Manage our digital marketing and network intelligence tools, including logging and tracking data related to The House Fund's interactions with our network; help us understand what we are doing and should be doing better
  • Curate invite lists and manage communications for The House Fund events - from our large scale annual investor summit with hundreds of attendees to small, intimate thematic dinners hosted by our investment team
  • Provide feedback to our software engineering team to inform the product roadmap for our internal tooling
Requirements
  • Minimum of 4 years prior working experience in product marketing, partner marketing, event marketing, other digital marketing role, sales enablement, or community function at a technology company, startup, venture capital firm, or agency. Individuals with a product management background with an interest in marketing will also be considered.
  • Experience writing email copy for marketing campaigns and optimizing engagements using modern CRM software (ie, Salesforce, Affinity, ...)
  • Interest in venture capital, startups, and technology
  • Relentless ability to stay organized across concurrent projects
  • Plus: Experience or interest in Product Management (we'll invest in you to learn this field)
Overview of The House Fund

The House Fund is a pre-seed and early stage venture capital fund, and the first fund focused on UC Berkeley (which produces more alumni-founded venture-backed startups than any University in the world). We invest in the community of nearly 600,000 UC Berkeley affiliates, specifically in companies that have at least one UC Berkeley affiliated founder (alumni, students, faculty). Since its founding in April 2016, The House Fund has invested in 50+ startups, including 10 exits, that have raised $2B+ in follow-on financing.

Our team includes prolific Berkeley alumni investors, entrepreneurs, and faculty. Our 4 Part-Time Partners have founded companies with combined exits of $1B+ and our 6 Faculty Partners are among the world's leading AI experts and entrepreneurs.
